Liangxing Tang

Visiting Professor and Academic Advisor

 A renowned Chinese pipa (Chinese lute) performer and educator, Tang Liangxing was born in 1948 in Shanghai into a family with a long tradition of Jiangnan silk and bamboo music.

He began learning the erhu at age 7 and the pipa at 12, and at 13, he was admitted to the Shanghai National Music Troupe's training school, where he studied under many famous pipa masters.

Tang Liangxing has had a distinguished career, performing with major orchestras in China and touring extensively in over 20 countries, including the United States, Europe, and Japan. He is particularly known for his performances of traditional Chinese pieces such as "The Ten-Sided Ambush" and "Plum Blossoms in Three Movements," as well as for his contributions to the promotion of Chinese music internationally.

In 1993, he was awarded the U.S. National Endowment for the Arts National Heritage Fellowship, and his performances have been praised by critics as "one of the most outstanding and moving plucked-string musicians in the world."

Since 1998, Tang Liangxing has been a professor at the Department of Chinese Music, National Tainan University of the Arts in Taiwan, where he has continued to teach and promote the study of pipa and Jiangnan silk and bamboo music.

汤良兴 特聘教授与学术顾问

汤良兴,著名琵琶演奏家、教育家,生于上海。曾任台湾国立台南艺术大学中国音乐学系教授,并担任台北市立国乐团、中央民族乐团艺术顾问。自幼学习二胡、琵琶及古琴,先后师从马林生、马圣龙、李廷松、卫仲乐、张子谦等名家,十三岁考入上海民族乐团,十五岁登台独奏。1970年起任上海交响乐团琵琶独奏演员,并受邀随多个重要艺术团体出访亚洲、欧洲、澳洲及北美近二十个国家。曾首演大型琵琶协奏曲《花木兰》《西双版纳的晚霞》《故乡风情》等作品,并创作、改编多首不同风格的琵琶独奏曲。

1986年赴美国深造发展,先后在纽约林肯中心、卡内基音乐厅及哥伦比亚大学、耶鲁大学、曼哈顿音乐学院等地举办独奏会与专题讲学,并与美国多支交响乐团合作演出。1993年获美国国家艺术基金会(NEA)“国家传统艺术家大奖”,其演奏曾获《纽约时报》《华盛顿邮报》《洛杉矶时报》等媒体高度评价。

1998年起任教于国立台南艺术大学,长期致力于琵琶与江南丝竹的教学、研究、创作及传承,培养众多优秀青年演奏人才。其艺术风格博采众长,在传统韵味基础上融入现代演奏技巧,对中国琵琶艺术在海内外的传播与发展具有重要影响。
