A Chinese New Year Concert with
The Orchestra Now

The US-China Music Institute presents its first annual Chinese New Year concert, to be held at Bard’s Fisher Center and Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City. This year’s concert is co-sponsored by the Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM), China, and features guest performers from their distinguished faculty.

These are family-friendly events with fun Chinese New Year activities before the concerts. Come early and bring the kids!

Conductor Jindong Cai is the director of the US-China Music Institute, co-director of the Chinese Music Development Initiative, professor of music and arts at Bard College, and associate conductor of Bard’s The Orchestra Now. Prior to joining Bard he was a professor of performance at Stanford University. Over the 30 years of his career in the United States, Cai has established himself as an active and dynamic conductor, scholar of Western classical music in China, and leading advocate of music from across Asia.

Conductor Chen Bing is associate professor of conducting at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. She studied with distin- guished Chinese conductors Zheng Xiaoying and Yu Feng, and has conducted concerts for state leaders and ambassadors at many national and international events. Committed to the introduction and promotion of Chinese music through a combination of Chinese and Western characteristics, Chen often collaborates with performers and composers to premiere contemporary works for audiences in China and abroad.
