About the Exhibition

Now through June 25, 2023

A rare opportunity to view the unique master work by Zhu Da (1626-1705, Bada Shanren) "Flowers on a River". This great masterpiece in long hand-scroll format has finally made its first debut to US and featured in the exhibition through June 25th. We have titled the exhibition using the name of this painting. "Flowers on a River" marks the first loan exhibition from China to US in four years following a pandemic-related disruption. It is also the first important introduction to Chinese flower-and-bird painting genre through Ming and Qing's 500 years history with 59 artists' works. This first-time large survey covers three subjects: "Precious Plums of the Palace: Academic ism and Court Artist"; "Fragrant Plums in the Wild: Literati art, Painters, and Painting Schools"; and "Vitality of Nature: Flower and Bird Painting and Customs", offering visitors a comprehensive guide to understanding Chinese philosophy and their eternal pursuit in the meanings of life.
