China Now Music Festival: Facing the Past, Looking to the Future

Pre-concert lecture at 7 p.m.

A preview of the festival concerts on Oct 21-22 in New York City, this is an evening of contemporary works performed by The Orchestra Now and musicians from the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, with Jindong Cai, conductor.  The program features compositions inspired by the first Opium War (1839–42) and the Nanjing Massacre (1937), along with a world-premiere performance of a new work by composer Chen Danbu from the Central Conservatory of Music, Beijing. There will be a preconcert panel discussion at 7pm with China Now Music Festival composers and festival director Jindong Cai.
