In 1973 the Philadelphia Orchestra embarked on a history-making tour of China, marking the beginning of an explosion of interest in Western classical music there which continues to this day. The forthcoming film “Beethoven in Beijing” chronicles the story of the tour as well as the effect it had on Chinese culture. A preview of the film will be followed by a discussion of how China and the U.S. can cooperate to advance classical music into the future. With producer Jennifer Lin, Jindong Cai, and members of the Philadelphia Orchestra. Light lunch reception. Free and open to the public.
