Founded in 2001, the Choir of the Music Education Institute at the Central Conservatory of Music is composed entirely of students from the Institute. Guided by the Institute’s educational mission to “let music belong to every Chinese person,”—as well as its innovative philosophy of a new system of quality-oriented music education—the choir employs the system’s distinctive teaching methods and curriculum in its vocal training.

Over the past two decades, the Choir has presented dozens of dedicated choral concerts and participated in major cultural and musical events in China and abroad. Highlights include the High Art on Campus concert series; ninth China Arts Festival, where the Choir received the Special Culture Grand Award; closing concert of the China Philharmonic Orchestra’s 2009–10 season featuring Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem; Shanghai World Expo Choral Festival, for which the Choir trained ensembles from all 18 districts and counties of Shanghai before performing alongside them; concerts celebrating the “Year of Chinese Culture” in Italy; Bachfest Leipzig and the 25th Knechtsteden Early Music Festival in Germany; and with the Gewandhaus Orchestra Leipzig, China Philharmonic Orchestra, China National Symphony Orchestra, Beijing Symphony Orchestra, Shenzhen Symphony Orchestra, and Zurich Chamber Orchestra, among others.

The Choir of the Music Education Institute has also collaborated with many renowned Chinese and international conductors, including Zheng Xiaoying, Chen Liangsheng, Yu Feng, Long Yu, Li Xincao, Tang Muhai, Chen Lin, Charles Dutoit, Hermann Max, Johnny Poon, Péter Erdei, and Katalin Kiss.

Founded in 2023 by Chenchen Li, Xinsheng Chinese Choir is a New York–based choir dedicated to building a high-quality and connected Chinese-language choral community. Today, Xinsheng includes four active adult choir groups in New York as well as a children’s choir.

Since its founding, Xinsheng has presented seasonal concerts and performed at the United Nations Headquarters, Carnegie Hall, Kaufman Music Center, Sing for Hope events, and other stages across New York. Its repertoire includes Chinese choral works, contemporary arrangements, musical theatre, pop, and cross-cultural pieces.
