In partnership with the Central Conservatory of Music (Beijing, China), the US-China Music Institute of the Bard College Conservatory of Music has launched the Chinese Music Development Initiative, consisting of several components: a degree program for Chinese instruments, an annual Chinese Music Festival, a program of scholarly conferences, and a Summer Academy for high school–age students.

The US-China Music Institute has established a long-term strategic business partnership with Shanghai No. 1 National Musical Instruments Factory, Ltd. The most influential Chinese musical instrument manufacturer in China, Dunhuang will provide instruments and support for various Chinese music projects at Bard, including the Summer Academy for high school–age students.
